An Enduring Legacy

We are grateful to have found in Villanova a partner committed to the same Catholic values and intellectual tradition we hold dear. And we are proud to announce that Villanova will continue using the name Cabrini when referring to the campus. They will also preserve Cabrini’s overarching legacy and mission and a number of its many impactful initiatives. These include:

Continuing Academic Excellence

Several of Cabrini’s many important initiatives will continue to live on at Villanova University. For example, Villanova will enhance existing immigration work and service initiatives by incorporating specific aspects of those initiatives currently taking place at Cabrini. Villanova is exploring opportunities and possible options to leverage Cabrini’s strong accredited education programs. Villanova also plans to advance Cabrini’s goal to produce more nurses educated in the Catholic tradition to serve the underserved.

Honoring Our Athletes

We celebrate and thank the Cabrini student-athletes, coaches, trainers, and staff who have represented the university with honor, sportsmanship, and achievement in competition. Our agreement will ensure the legacy of Cabrini Athletics will be preserved and their many accomplishments remembered in a place of honor and respect.

Engaging with Our Alumni

Cabrini alumni are more than 18,000 strong. Villanova will honor key events, continue services, and offer an expedited admission process for Cabrini alumni interested in Villanova’s graduate programs, as well as provide access to Villanova Career Services and continuing education programs.

Continuing our Commitment to Social Justice

Villanova plans to incorporate the work of Cabrini’s Wolfington Center into its existing initiatives, including the St. Thomas of Villanova Center for the Common Good, focused on preparing students as advocates for social change. They will also establish a “Cabrini Scholars” scholarship program in alignment with Cabrini’s program that currently exists with Cabrini High School in New Orleans.

Continuing Focus on Immigration

Our origin stories are similar and advocacy for immigrant populations remains an essential part of both universities to this day. Villanova will maintain and expand upon the work and outreach of Mother Cabrini with the creation of an institute or center on immigration, which will unite aspects of both Cabrini’s and Villanova’s existing immigration and advocacy work.

Advancing Women’s Leadership

Villanova will host an annual event focused on women’s leadership, honoring Mother Cabrini.

Inclusive Board Membership

Two designated representatives of Cabrini will serve on the Villanova University Board of Trustees for up to two successive terms of 5 years, including one representative of the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Missionary Sisters on Campus

The Cabrini President’s House will be owned by Villanova and offered to the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, as a group, for their use as long as they wish.

Active discussions are ongoing regarding other ways Villanova intends to carry Cabrini’s mission, legacy, and name forward.
